AREAS OF EXPERTISE

Sandy comes to us from Palmer College and has a nearly 30-year career as a reference and technical services librarian. She earned her BA in history and government from Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri and a master’s in library and information science from the University of Missouri.

She worked at the University of California, Santa Barbara libraries for 10 years as a science and engineering librarian and coordinator for the instruction, marketing, and publications departments. She earned a certificate in marketing from the UCSB Extension program. In addition to the years of helping students and faculty do research, she also volunteered at the Sahyun Library of the Santa Barbara County Genealogical Society. Her specialty in genealogical research led her to take a position as a Virginiana librarian at the Fairfax County Library in Virginia where she had several encounters with acclaimed researchers in the field. One day, the phone rang, and it was her favorite historical map maker! Another day, someone known for researching a certain family and presenting at conferences came in. It turned out that Sandy was related to the woman’s husband through this line.

Sandy moved to the Department of Labor in Washington, D.C. to assume the role of technical information specialist. She ran the library and assisted OSHA staff with research and rulemaking.

She returned to the Quad Cities to be near family and is excited to use her research skills to help Wastyn & Associates’ clients get the funds they need to improve the quality of life for the community.
