Forefront

Forefront, Illinois’ statewide association for nonprofits, grantmakers, advisors, and their allies, works to build a vibrant social impact sector for all people of Illinois, Forefront’s 1000+ Member community includes nonprofits who work in more than 26 different issue areas throughout the state and grantmaking organizations including private foundations, public charities, corporations, and individual philanthropists. Forefront provides its Members a wide range of support, from training, advocacy, thought leadership and facilitation of collective action around important issues affecting the sector.

Forefront achieves its mission by hosting classes and events, offering access to member and peer networks, and being a one-stop-shop for all of the resources an organization needs to maximize its impact. These resources include Forefront’s Library, with free access to reports, templates, and librarians to help research foundations, individuals, and other philanthropic topics. Forefront also tracks and publishes the most up-to-date policy developments in both Illinois and the country to keep the community well informed. Other Forefront resources include a job board, peer advisor program and financial, administrative and accounting solutions so that nonprofit leaders can focus on their mission.

Forefront aims to give nonprofits and grantmakers the best possible chance to succeed in reaching their goals.

Wastyn & Associates had the pleasure of working with Forefront to provide a series of board development workshops to nonprofits located in and around the Galesburg area. A half day workshop for new nonprofit board chairs helped them maximize their effectiveness in this vital and often overlooked role. Virtual learning sessions on board member roles and responsibilities, boards as ambassadors, and the working relationship between board members and executive directors culminated in a Certificate of Excellence in Nonprofit Governance Training for the thirty people enrolled.

As a statewide association, our team at Forefront works to build local networks around peer-learning and community resources. Linda and her team not only brought a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our Nonprofit Governance programming, but also a level of flexibility and customization that allowed us to tailor the program to the needs of the participants. The group still gathers regularly to check in on progress towards stated goals and continues to implement and share tools and ideas from the workshop.
